Barbarian...WTH??????

The IMDB description of Barbarian says "A woman staying at an Airbnb discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems."

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Having left the theater less than an hour ago and still jacked up from the pure horror joy of seeing this film, I'm here to tell you that this description doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of Barbarian.

Seen the preview? (Okay, so I'm old school. I still call them previews because you see them before you see the movie. And yes, I know that they were called trailers when they were first made, so don't argue with me about that. I'm gonna call them previews and it's my blog so there!)

Anyhow, seen the preview? Think it showed the whole movie? You are WRONG!

You can't even begin to guess what you are in for in this Russian nesting doll of a horror film. Just be prepared for a roller coaster ride from hell, strap yourself in, feel the wind blow your hair back, and then.....

Everything....well, I was gonna tell you, but I don't want to spoil it for you. Let's just say it involves Justin Long, who I didn't even know was in this movie. So listen, I'm gonna give you a couple of weeks to see it, and then I'm gonna come back here and talk about it again with spoilers, and I want you to join in the conversation, okay? Because there's nothing I love more than talking about horror movies!

Soooooo....I was delightfully surprised when the young person at the concession stand complimented me on my Night of the Living Dead tee shirt. I told them I'd purchased it from www.fright-rags.com and they mentioned another website that sells licensed horror merch (0f course the name escaped me because I was so surprised by what they then showed me) and pointed to a small pinback button on their lanyard of Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) from Re-Animator.

I said, "Oh! Re-Animator! You like that movie?"

And they said, "It's my favorite."

Then I said, "Well, did you know Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton are going to be at Connecticut Horror Fest this weekend? You should go."

They said, "Oh my god. Really? This weekend?"

"Yup!"

"I just bought his autograph!"

"Well, now you can get one in person! Are you familiar with Mike Flanagan? He and some of the cast of Midnight Mass are going to be there, and I'm going to get them to sign my vinyl of the soundtrack."

"That's awesome!"

Then some other customers showed up, so our conversation had to end, and I went in to see the movie. But the conversation so delighted me that I went back to the concession stand after the movie and asked them if they'd seen it. This time I took note of the name "Ethan" on the name tag. Ethan said they hadn't seen the movie yet, but told me they'd gotten their tickets to the con for Saturday. Then they said, "Since you like the movie, I'll show you what I'm going to wear." Then they pulled up their phone and showed me a picture of them dressed as Herbert West! So cool! I told them I would look for them on Saturday, and left the theater smiling.

It's always SO MUCH FUN to talk horror with someone!
